SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA - An airport shutdown in Bangkok in 2008 caused Japanese-American artist Lauren Iida to reroute to Cambodia where she decided to settle and set up an art centre, Open Studio Cambodia, in Kampot until late last year when she started planning a move to Siem Reap. This month, together with her young Khmer artists, she finaliZed the move, and launched herself onto the local art scene at a special showing at Tribe Gallery of Open Studio lino-cut artist Morn Chear’s work... This is definitely a big move for the studio, and I am excited to see how it works out. I think that there are lots of benefits to this, and I feel like it is going to make life a lot easier for them. If they do manage to succeed with this venture, then good things are going to happen. It will take some time before they can do it, but I can see it happening. I hope that their studio gets a lot better.
